Good budget option - Not 100% waterproof
Comfortable despite not being "worn in" in advance A little cheap looking

These are a very good budget option. Purchased for my child who was walking Snowdon. The boots stood up well to the condition and whilst not 100% waterproof, these did the job perfectly. My son reported that they were comfortable (despite not being worn in ahead of the day). Perhaps not the most attractive option but extremely good value.

These are excellent quality boots, good fit, nice and light, waterproof and comfortable, my kids live in their boots. Couldn't be happier with them.

Features

Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: Tested in laboratories and in the field, the NOVADRY® equipped shoes ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
In the waterproofing tests, we test 3 levels of waterproofing, with 2,000 flexes (approx. 2h walking), 4000 flexes (approx. 4h walking) and 8000 flexes (approx. 8h walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry. The Arpenaz 100 Mid Junior shoe is waterproof for 2000 flexes.
Maintaining waterproofing
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer by protecting the top part of your boots and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your boots recover their original water repellent qualities and combat outer stains.
Buying tips
Have your child try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to have your child walk around the store. Have them gradually start using their boots during their first few hiking trips to break them in.
What size should I choose?
For hiking, you may need a size larger than your usual size to guarantee optimal comfort while going downhill, and avoid your toes bumping the end of the shoes. Tip: keep your toenails short, and before going downhill at any time, check that your laces are tight enough to stop your feet slipping down towards the front of the shoes.
Field tests
All our shoes undergo use and comfort tests carried out by users who represent the target market in conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our Field Test Missions team up the product manager with people who aren't affiliated with QUECHUA, to test, improve, and validate our products.
Lab tests
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: eyelet and strap attachment, sticking, toxicology, UV resistance, wearing of sole and upper components, early wear and tear.
