Footwear waterproofing test: tested in laboratory and actual usage conditions, the shoes are equipped with waterproof and breathable membrane to provide optimal protection from rain. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry. They are half immersed and then placed on a mechanical arm that simulates walking: we then check that the inside of the shoe remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). The Crossrock children's shoe is waterproof for 4000 flexes.
Making waterproofing last longer
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. So to keep your feet dry for longer, we recommend wearing long or short waterproof leg warmers over the top of your boots, to prevent water from seeping in, as well as sand and pebbles. We recommend applying a water-proofing spray several times a year to maintain water repellency and prevent staining on outer layers.
Allow children to try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to allow then to walk around the store. Gradually start using you shoes during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
Which size should I select?
For hiking, do not hesitate to buy one size larger than the usual size to guarantee excellent comfort on the descent and to avoid toes rubbing at the tip of the shoe. Recommendation: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
All our shoes undergo comfort and use tests carried out by users who are representative of our target market, in conditions identical to those found in typical use.
