    First class

Usually spend £140 on my boots these cost only £40. They have been used in Scotland, the Peak District and France. Temperature range -10 to + 39 Celsius. Never leaked always comfortable very breathable. Bought two more pairs to keep in stock, when I eventually wear first pair out.

    Laces

User reported boots very comfortable to wear. The only drawback is the fact that the laces will not stay tied even with double knots. I take this to be the effect of the man made material the laces are made of and the minute vibrations causes when the foot hits the ground.

    Highly recommended

Cheapest boots I've ever bought but probably the best. I've worn them climbing scafell and pavey ark so far - they're all day comfy - wide enough for no toe pinching. Waterproof for about 4 hours. I eventually got damp socks after another 2 hours of VERY wet walking. Grip is excellent even on steep wet grass. Quite light - a good thing I reckon. Amazing for £40. No damage to soles after 10 hours scrambling/climbing/hiking.

Features

Crosscontact sole
We researched this sole design extensively in our laboratories, along with a specific rubber formula to optimise grip and traction. We aim for the best compromise for walking on dry and slippery terrain, knowing that the needs are not the same.
Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: tested in laboratory and actual usage conditions, the shoes are equipped with waterproof and breathable membrane to provide optimal protection from rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
Waterproofing level
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry. The Forclaz 500 waterproof passes the 8000 flexes test.
Making waterproofing last longer
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters, it is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer periods by protecting the top part of your shoes and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your shoes recover their original water-repellent qualities and combat outer stains.
Buying tips
When taking up hiking, do not hesitate to take a size above your usual shoe size to guarantee an optimal comfort when walking downhill and to prevent your toes rubbing the tops of the shoe. Tip: nails must be cut short, and before descending, check that the laces stop the foot from slipping forward to the front of the shoe.
