Decathlon comes up trumps again! Fantastic customer service in store at Poole, friendly personal attention and suggestions on suitable boots for walking. They are so lightweight and no breaking in needed.

    Fantastic and reliable
Comfortable, good quality, dry None so far

Very comfortable, didn't have to break them in. Wore them whilst hiking in New Zealand. Stayed warm and dry in torrential rain and snow conditions. Unfortunately torrential rain caused valley to flood and very quickly needed to get out by wading through a river. Needed proper waders/wellingtons (shin high water) but they dried in our van within a day or two and got me safely out of trouble! No smell and have worn again since this, still working perfectly even after all the abuse.

Use the brush and/or sponge to clean the shoe and remove dirt or mud residue. The use of nourishing cream or waterproof grease on split leather is not recommended. This is not problematic in itself, but would modify the aesthetic aspect of the shoe. Waterproof regularly again using specific spray products for synthetics.

Restricted use
Not suitable for hiking tours.

Features

Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: Tested in the laboratory and in use, boots equipped with waterproof and breathable membrane ensure optimum protection against rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once the product is dry.
Waterproofing level
The Forclaz 100 High boot is waterproof for 4000 flexes.
Making waterproofing last longer
A shoe's waterproofing is often undermined by water getting in from the top of the shoe. Using waterproof gaiters or mini gaiters, it is therefore recommended to keep your feet dry for longer periods by protecting the top part of your shoes and prevent water from getting in as well as pebbles, sand, etc. Use of a re-waterproofing spray is recommended several times per year. This will help your shoes recover their original water-repellent qualities and combat outer stains.
Field tests
All our shoes are tested in comfort and in use by users who represent those, for whom the products are designed, under conditions identical to those that you can find in use. Moreover, our "Missions Tests" put the product manager in contact with people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop and validate the products.
Laboratory test
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to approve the quality of the following components: Tearing of the eyelets and straps, stitching, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing.
Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes, if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot when going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using you boots during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
