    Good quality jacket

Well made, excellent fit, especially the hood. Good quality fabric, not too flimsy and excellent value - much cheaper and nicer than my old famous name jacket.

    Good value, breathable waterproof.

Great coat, well made and a nice fit for my wife. Its not as short as most waterproofs are becoming these days. Pockets are a good size as is the hood. Coat is both waterproof and breathable, unless your doing some serious outdoor stuff in some serious conditions - why pay more.

Waterproof zips on main fastening and 2 outer hand pockets to guarantee the jacket waterproofing.
Component breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity evaporates, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 9<RET<12 = very breathable fabric / 12<RET<20 = breathable fabric / RET>20 = little or no breathability. The RET of the MH500 jacket is 6 (extremely breathable fabric).
Breathability of the garment
In addition to breathable fabrics, Quechua develops high-tech solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh, etc.) to improve the overall ventilation of its hiking jackets and overtrousers. These ventilation systems allow both temperature regulation inside the garment and help wick away perspiration generated by the body during exercise.
Component with waterproof membrane
The MH500 jacket includes a membrane. A membrane like a very fine plastic film (polyurethane) making the component waterproof while remaining breathable. A membrane has the edge, being more supple, lightweight, durable and often more breathable than coating. The coating is like a layer of "paint" applied on the underside of the fabric. It is often less costly than a membrane, and requires a lining for protection.
3 layers
The MH500 jacket component is named "3 layer". The membrane is, in fact, glued between the inside and outside layers of the component (hence the name 3 layer). This construction helps the membrane last longer and boosts the component's performance. "2 layers": the membrane is only bonded to the outer layer, the inner protective lining is "free". This construction costs less but is generally more cumbersome.
Water-repellent component
A fabric's water repellent property is its capacity to repel water, allowing it to slide over its surface. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. A fabric becomes water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (recommended after every three washes). All Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.
Additional recommended products
MH500 overtrousers to protect also the lower body and thus to enjoy a complete and effective protection against rain during your excursions in the mountains. Care products: reproofing spray or liquid for use in the washing machine restores water-repellent properties of the fabric and optimises the performance of your garment throughout its lifetime.
Product environmental impact comparison score
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over the entire lifecycle of the product using different indicators. An overall rating of ABCDE is provided to help you easily identify products with the best environmental performance by comparing products of the same type with each other (t-shirts, trousers and backpacks). Decathlon is a voluntary actor in this environmental labellling process. For further information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
