Our young teams of testers based at the foot of the Mont Blanc and our Research and Development laboratory, which is responsible for selecting the best components.
Our design team is based at the foot of Mont-Blanc, in Haute-Savoie (France). All year round, we create and develop products that are beautiful, simple and technologically advanced. These are then ruthlessly tested in the field because we believe that the only way of continually improving is to test them under the real-life conditions that you will experience.

Component waterproofing
We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Components with a 5000 mm waterproof rating can support the pressure of a 5000 mm column of water which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting 5 hours. Waterproofing is expressed in schmerbers (for example: 5000 schmerbers).
Component breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity can escape, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric / 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric / 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric / RET > 20 = fabric is not breathable or has low breathability.
Component durability
Abrasion and friction resistance test: for example, we check that the fleeces do not pill using tests conducted in laboratories. Colour fastness test: the colour fastness is verified to make sure that the colours do not bleed when coming into contact with saliva. Ageing test: repeated washing must not affect the properties of the fabric, its behaviour, thickness or appearance.
Windproof effect
The fabric is made waterproof, hence windproof, by applying a coating to its inner surface. Indeed, a waterproof fabric has the necessary technical characteristics to be considered windproof. Wind protection is important because the wind has a powerful cooling effect on the body, whether it is physically active or at rest.

Product environmental impact comparison score
The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle using different indicators. An overall rating from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most eco-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc.). Decathlon is committed to displaying the environmental data of its products. For further information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/
1/ Machine wash (30 to 40°C): rip-tab fasteners, mild washing liquid. Wash jackets and trousers inside out. Loosen straps and elastics. 2/ Do not fold the garment too much in the washing machine, as: this can damage it. 3/ Do not mix the clothing styles and the colours. 4/ Do not use bleach. 5/ Choose a long rinse and gentle spin cycle. 6/ Drying option: Either line or tumble dry (low temperature, short cycle).
