    Comfortable & Waterproof

So far, these are working out Ok. They are very comfortable - no bedding in was required. They are also waterproof. Soles are fairly stiff, but perhaps not quite enough for the market it's sold into, however at the price, they are good. Grip is fine, and I'm not seeing the issues one or two have mentioned with soles wearing out. Overall I can see the boot lasting long enough for the price, except for:-
My main gripe is the 3rd lace lug down from the top, it's not metal as in the picture but it's plastic! yes plastic. I never noticed this at first, and now they are quite well used. This worries me for the longevity every time I tighten the laces - I'm waiting for it to snap. If this lug proves long lasting then these will have been excellent.

Care instructions
Use the brush and/or sponge to clean the shoe and remove dirt or mud residue. Always brush in the same direction to give nubuck its original look. The use of cream or waterproof grease on split leather is not recommended. While it will not damage the leather, it will change the aspect of your boots.
Storage Tips
Store in a dark, dry and well-ventilated place.
Restricted use
Not suitable for mountaineering.

Waterproofing test
Footwear waterproofing test: tested in laboratory and actual usage conditions, the shoes are equipped with waterproof and breathable membrane to provide optimal protection from rain. First, the shoe is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing
During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (about 4 km of walking), 4000 flexes (about 8 km of walking) and 8000 flexes (about 16 km of walking). Of course, after this test or in use, the shoe regains its original waterproofing once dry.
Waterproofing level
The TREK 100 boots are guaranteed to provided waterproofing for up to 8000 flexes, hence 16 km of walking in water which reaches the mid-upper.
Lab tests
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: - attachment of eyelets and webbing, - sole assembly, - toxicology, - UV resistance, - sole and upper component abrasion, - accelerated ageing.
Buying tips
Try on both shoes, standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models or sizes, if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going down. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually start using your boots during your first few hiking trips to break them in.
