Approved by
All our backpacks are tested in the field by users who represent the target market under conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our Field Test Missions team up our product managers with people not affiliated with QUECHUA to test, improve and validate our products.
Tests
We test the bag's resistance to abrasion, wear, its colour fastness under UV rays, after washing and its waterproofing in the laboratory and in the field. Subsequently, a mannequin simulates ageing of the weighed down bag over the years using fast walking actions, over thousands of cycles, to check the resistance of assemblies. The components (fabrics, buckles, straps, foam, zips... ) are also tested separately allowing us to guarantee these bags for 10 years.
Designed to
Trekkers using support to move belongings between stages during a hike.

Features

Backpack technical tests.
Backpack components are approved in laboratory tests, including: fabric, buckles, webbing, foam, zips, etc. Fabrics are tested for:resistance to abrasion, tearing, colour durability against UV, washing, waterproofing...Then, a test is done on the finished product that acceleratedly simulates the kind of treatment it will be subjected to over the years to assess assembly strength:The backpack is weighted, placed on a dummy which reproduces the movement of fast walking through thousands of cycles.
How is backpack volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. We then empty the balls into a graduated container which provides the equivalent volume in litres with a tolerance ranging a couple of %.
Environmental measurements
Oxylane, together with Quechua, has decided to inform you of the environmental impact of its hiking backpacks over their entire lifespan. This work follows an experiment that began in July 2011 with the French Ministry of Ecology. Scores ranging from A to E were awarded based on comparisons between Quechua's backpacks only.
